I’m the kind of mom that being a mom did not come naturally. I have spent countless hours on the internet since I found out I was pregnant trying to learn what to do and how to do it. I’ve researched everything. Basically because I knew nothing and this mom thing still has not come naturally to me after 10 months.

My daughter started eating solids around 4 or 5 months. She just seemed hungry and the formula wasn’t cutting it. We started with store bought Gerber 1st foods. I bought one of each flavor and we tried them all. Then, once she hit around six months, we switched to Gerber 2nd foods. Again, I’m really not good at this mom thing so I just bought food because I didn’t know what to buy for her that I could blend myself.

It wasn’t until she was about 8 months old that I really committed to making her food. I still squeezed in some fruit baby food, mainly because of how expensive fruit is in the early spring. I started with buying the $1 bags of frozen vegetables at Walmart (Great Value brand) and blended them to mush. We bought peas, carrots, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes. I also bought a bag of frozen fruit that was a mixture of blackberries and some other odds and ends. I have a Ninja chopper I use that works perfect for making the baby food.

Here is what a typical day of food looks like for us:

7:30am: 8 ounce bottle
10am: Whole milk yogurt (2 oz) plus water or juice
Naptime: 8 ounce bottle
1pm: 1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese, 2oz unsweetened applesauce, 1 hardboiled egg (not the yolk)
4pm: 2oz vegetable puree plus small pieces of whatever we’re eating for dinner that night
7pm: baby oatmeal and usually a pureed fruit or vegetable
8pm: 8 ounce bottle

This definitely isn’t set in stone. I have little 2oz cups prepped for each week in the fridge and we just pull from those. We’ve also been feeding her the same things we eat, so for example last night she had small pieces of sausage with her vegetables. Here is what’s in my fridge for her right now:

6 (2oz) cups of sweet potatoes
6 (2oz) cups of mixed vegetables (chopped super small)
6 (2oz) cups of whole milk yogurt
6 (2oz) cups of unsweetened applesauce
Hardboiled eggs — (we make these on Sundays in the instant pot so we have them for breakfast throughout the week. I just chop hers up and give her the egg white.
1 bag of mild cheddar shredded cheese
2 containers of pureed fruits. I normally mix this in with her oatmeal to give the unflavored kind some flavor

It doesn’t take rocket science to feed your kid regular food. Spend a few minutes on Pinterest looking for ideas and how to cut the food so the baby doesn’t choke and you’re all set.
