Shawnee State Park — PA

Shawnee State Park is located in Schellsburg, PA. Here’s some information about Shawnee.

The Campground:
The campground is easyish to get to. Due to the main bridge being closed that goes to the campground, we needed to use an alternate route to get up to the campground which was a gravel hill that could potentially cause problems for larger campers. Once you get to the top of this hill, you will see the camp office. Checking in with someone was not required, and we were able to pass through and go straight to our site. It seems as though most of the sites at Shawnee are on the smaller side. Between our truck, a Chevy Silverado 2500HD and a 30 foot camper, we needed to book a pull thru site with mostly other very large drive campers.

The bathrooms were a bit of a walk from my campsite (number 307). It was downhill to get there, and a hill on the steeper side to get back up. The bathroom near our loop didn’t have a handicap stall for either a shower or a toilet. There were 3 shower stalls and 3 toilet stalls. The bathroom was a bit older but it was clean.

There wasn’t much to do at the campground. There was a playground in the center of a different loop, but that was pretty much it. We needed to drive to the lake, camp office, and everywhere else. The road to get in and out was a bit rocky due to the main entrance being closed. It was all gravel and a decently steep hill. Once we got to the bottom of that hill, the lake was very close by. There was also a camp store down the road to buy bait.

We drove to the swimming area. No one is permitted in the water as of May 2021 due to a bacteria issue in the water so the swimming area was gated off. There was a nice sandy area that you could lay out with a bathroom nearby.

Overall, we were pleased with Shawnee and would go back to camp there again. I would not recommend Site 307 due to having no shade, but there were plenty of sites to choose from.
