Wheel In Campground — Shelocta, PA

We decided to book last minute to go camping for Memorial Day this year. I used the website Campspot.com and found Wheel In Campground. Booking was really easy and their price was nearly the same as what we pay to book at state parks in PA, full hookups and pet friendly included. We booked the last site they had available for this year. We were not disappointed one bit!

When getting off the highway, there are several signs pointing you in the direction of the campground. The campground is on a working farm. Once you arrive, we made a quick stop at the office and put down a $10 deposit on a card to let us in and out of the gate as we pleased. The roads were definitely a bit tight. The outer ring of campers was all seasonal campers from what I could tell. They were very close together but everything was maintained and nothing looked trashy or gross. The inner ring seemed to be all campers like us who were there just for the weekend/week.

We were Site #11. In order to get to our specific site, we needed to drive around the campground and then back-in on the driver side. Someone from the campground escorted us to our site, helped my husband wiggle the camper into our spot, and made sure our hookups were exactly where they needed to be before he left. The customer service was AMAZING. We had to ask the camper next to us to move his Jeep so we could get our camper in the spot. It took a few swings to get it in straight, no fault of my husbands. It was a very tight place all around!

Once we got settled, the rest of the weekend was great. They had Bingo each night at the pavilion which was in the center of all of the campers. They also had Horseshoe Tournaments and a few other activities as well. They also had a DJ/dance the night before most people left. At the end of the dance, there were raffles, giveaways, and 50/50s.

In the campground was one shower house, 1 dumpstation, a playground, a toddler playground, the huge pavilion, and a really cool game room. The game room had games that were mostly a quarter and included Skiball, bowling, pinball, and a lot more. My husband and I had a lot of fun in there.

The campground is extremely pet friendly. It seemed that most sites had pets. A lot of people had fences for their dogs and overall the dogs were very well behaved.

We went to Indiana one of the days to go to Walmart. But there are two (maybe more) Dollar Generals within a few minutes of the campground. If you feel like exploring, Yellow Creek State Park was a very reasonable drive from Wheel In as well.

We really enjoyed our stay at Wheel In Campground. If you are looking for a place to camp in Shelocta, definitely check it out!
